UNIVERSAL SKILLS GROUP HAVE TEAMED UP WITH MCNALLY EV TO GIVE NEW ENTRANTS A PATHWAY INTO THE EV INDUSTRY.
With demand electric vehicles and charge points growing, for the first time this year eco-friendly vehicles began to outsell diesel, McNally EV were in need of new recruits to help them keep up with the demand. They contacted Universal Skills Group in early 2020, looking for a solution to quickly recruit and train new EV charge point installers.
The Domestic Installer course was suggested as the best way to meet their requirements. The 25 day course, takes entrants with little or no experience and gives the the skills and qualifications to work on domestic electrical installations. This was crucial for the company who are seeing a sharp rise in demand for EV charge points at homes across the UK.
Through the partnership agreement, McNally agreed to take on trainees on for two weeks work shadowing, followed by a interview for the role. This unique proposal gives new entrants not only the chance to gain new qualifications through the course, but also valuable hands on work experience.
THREE CANDIDATES SUCCESSFULLY GAIN EMPLOYMENT
The first course ran in June after our centre had re-opened after lockdown, with all the entrants successfully completing the course and joining McNally for the work shadowing. During the two week shadowing period, three of the candidates impressed the senior engineers at McNally and went on to be successful during the job interview. They will start their new roles in October.
Nicky McNally, founder and Manager of McNallys said ‘We were impressed with all of the candidates who had completed their training with Universal Skills Group. To say they were all new entrants, their knowledge and skillset fresh of the course was exactly what we were looking for. We look forward to developing this exciting new partnership with USG.’
Universal Skills Group are proud to have supported the journey of three new entrants into the industry and look forward to continuing to support McNally’s growth.
