For years now, Universal Skills Group has supported commercial clients with training their plumbers, gas and heating engineers, electricians, and electrical installers.
And thanks to our loyal client base, our commercial training programmes have evolved and improved to provide outstanding service for both our clients and their trainees!
But there are always some common questions that crop up. So, in this blog we answer the 6 most frequently asked questions.
1. Is there on-site accommodation?
Whilst we don’t offer accommodation of our own, there are several options close by.
After many years of training cohorts requiring a bed for the night, week or several months, we’ve built strong relationships with local hotels and restaurants. Thanks to these relationships, we’ve access to the best rates and other perks.
The most chosen accommodation is in the Holiday Inn just off the M1 - around 10 minutes drive from the centre.
2. Do we need to send tools and uniforms?
This is totally up to you.
If you would prefer your employees to use your tools, these can be shipped to the centre before the start of training, ready to use. We’ll ensure everything is kept safe and looked after for the duration of your training programme.
If not, we have our own supply of tools suitable for training purposes.
In the past some of our commercial clients have shipped tools at the end of the programme, ready to be loaded into trainees’ vans so they can start working right away. This can be a great way to get even more value out of your programme! We’ll help trainees to do a full tools check and how best to load their tools into the vehicle.
The same goes for uniforms, PPE and anything else you would like to equip your employees with. Just let us know your preferences and plans as you organise your booking.
3. Where can trainees charge electric vehicles?
There are several options to choose from when it comes to EV charging. There are charging points at the hotel as well as nearby charging stations. Wakefield has ample charging points scattered throughout the city.
We recommend downloading the ZapMap app for easy finding of all nearby EV charge points in Wakefield and throughout the UK.
Due to the sheer volume of vehicles at the training centre throughout the day, charging points are not available for trainees to use.
4. What should trainees bring with them, in general?
Please ensure your employees come equipped with everything they need for the length of their training. This includes all clothing and PPE.
If you are providing PPE, safety clothing or safety footwear, this must be organised ahead of time to allow the prompt start of training sessions without any unnecessary disruptions or delays.
5. What time is the centre open?
The Universal Skills Centre is open from 7am to allow training to begin at 8am.
The centre closes at 4pm each day and this is a full shut down. No one is permitted to stay at the unit beyond this time.
6. Can programmes be made specific to our business?
Absolutely! We know that many energy providers have their own testing operations, tech manuals and procedures.
Before your programme is finalised, we discuss all requirements so that every detail is understood and training is delivered to fully suit your business.
