Save up to 80% on Universal Skills Courses when using ELCAS credits
Universal Skills offers a number of courses for those looking to use their ELCAS credits to obtain a level 3 qualification. Such qualifications can help ex-military personnel to find new careers outside of the armed forces. ELCAS credits can be used to subsidise the cost of any of the below courses:
Using your ELCAS credits with Universal Skills
We understand that adapting to ‘civvy street’ can be challenging, that’s why we provide support and guidance throughout your training. We'll give you all the tools you need to have a successful career in the industry you choose.
We work with candidates in helping them use their enhanced learning credits (ELC) towards our level 3 training courses. To book onto a course we advise speaking directly with a member of the Universal Skills team first to discuss the course/courses you are interested in and date/s you are looking to book.
Booking your Universal Skills course using ELCAS credits
The below information gives you an overview of how the course booking will typically work for any ex-military personnel:
1. Understand your entitlement
Speak to your Resettlement Officer if you're unsure about what you are entitled to from the ELC scheme.
2. Speak with us
Speak with a member of the Universal Skills Team about what course/s you'd like to do and for what date/s.
3. Submit your claim
Submit your claim online to your Education Staff, further details on how to do this can be found here.
4. Pay the remainder
Upon receiving a Claims Authorisation Note (CAN) we would then apply the credit/s and invoice you for the remaining amount for the course.
Claiming your ELCAS credits
Individuals earn a certain number of credits through the ELC scheme, which can be used upon leaving the Armed Forces.
The number of credits given depends on quite a few factors, including when you first joined the Armed Forces and how many years you served. Generally you're entitled to use one ELCAS credit per financial year (1st April - 31st March) towards any level 3 or higher qualification.
The rules around the use of ELCAS credits can change from time to time so we would always advise speaking to your resettlement officer first to check your eligibility for credits and how you can use them.
The below information is correct at time of writing.
You'll be entitled to receive credits towards level 3 courses under the following circumstances:
- You've completed 4 years qualifying service and left the Armed Forces before the 1st of April 2017
- You've completed 6 years service and left the Armed Forces after the 1st of April 2017
There are also stipulations on how long you have to use your credits:
- If you left the Armed Forces before the 1st of April 2016, your credits are available to use up to 10 years after discharge
- If you left the Armed Forces on or after 1st of April 2016, you only have 5 years to use your credits from the date of discharge
