End Point Assessments

End-point assessment is the final part of an Apprenticeship Standard, designed to independently assess an apprentice’s knowledge, skills and behaviours that have been learnt throughout the apprenticeship. The purpose of the assessment is to make sure the apprentice meets the standard, set by employers, and are fully competent in the occupation. The end point assessment consists of the following  components : Readiness Review -Workplace Observation - Portfolio Grading - Technical Interview - Standardisation by Employer Technical Experts  - Final Grading By Universal Skills Centre.

Observation

Apprentices will be observed carrying out the following activities: ‘installation,’ ‘exchange’, ‘commissioning’ and ‘decommission’ of smart metering systems, associated equipment and communication systems in accordance with industry standards.  The observation will be undertaken by the apprentice’s line manager/trainer, safety or quality assurance engineer to confirm the apprentice’s approach and behaviours while applying their skills and knowledge in a live working situation. During or after the observation the apprentice may be asked questions to demonstrate knowledge and understanding relating to the activity. Standardised recording documentation provided by  Universal Skills Centre will be used to record the observation.

Interview

End point interview to take place at the end of the apprenticeship. This will allow a technical expert to question the apprentice in relation to their skills, knowledge and behaviours, based on their portfolio evidence. This includes the explanation of how they work and giving up to date energy efficiency advice to the customer,  Questions will be standardised and the interview will typically last one hour. The end point interview will be marked by the technical expert, using standardised documentation.

Grading

Based on the portfolio and the end point interview scores, a technical expert from the employer will standardise the preliminary grade and adjust if required to be either fail, pass or distinction, Universal Skills Centre will confirm the final grade following standardisation and quality assurance checks.
