Intro :

This course is designed to provide training in basic mechanical engineering techniques for persons from a non-engineering background. The course may be studied as part of a multi skill flexibility programme.

Aims :

To provide instruction and practice in basic mechanical engineering fitting skills and the correct and safe use of engineering tools.

  • Safe use and care of hand tools
  • Terminology
  • Safe use and care of measuring equipment including micrometers, vernier protractor, vernier height gauge
  • Hand skills, producing engineering components
  • Interpreting engineering drawings
  • Internal and external thread cutting
  • Marking out and measuring
  • Fastening and locking devices
  • Lubrication
  • Practical exercises
