Intro :

This course is intended for persons involved in the use, inspection or mounting of abrasive wheels and is designed to provide training as required under The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.

Aims :

To provide candidates with a comprehensive understanding of requirements of the relevant regulations and to ensure they can safely and efficiently work with abrasive wheels.

  • Relevant Regulations including:
  • PUWER 1998
  • Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005
  • PPE Regulations 2002
  • COSHH Regulations 2002
  • Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005
  • The importance of the regulations to users and supervisors
  • Hazards and safety precautions with abrasive wheels
  • Characteristics of abrasive wheels
  • Abrasive wheel operating speeds
  • Handling, storage and examination of abrasive wheels
  • Understanding grinding machinery
  • Precautions when using grinding equipment
  • Mounting of abrasive wheels
  • Dressing an abrasive wheel
  • Balancing abrasive wheels (optional)
  • Abrasive wheel guidance notes

Universal Skills Group Certificate

Notes :

Our course includes Bench, Pedestal and Angle Grinders Chop Saws and Stihl Saws etc. Half day duration refresher courses are available by arrangement. This course can be grant aid approved for organisations in scope with CITB.
