Intro :

A practical course designed for engineering fitters to be able to safely reset overloads and circuit breakers and to change fuses and electrical motors on a like for like basis to avoid delays to production.

Aims :

the course is designed for maintenance workers with little or no previous electrical knowledge who are required to carry out the above tasks at work, correctly and safely in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Syllabus :

  • Electricity at work regulations 1989 (Regulation 4,13,14&16)
  • Reference to BS7671: 2008 (2011) 17th Edition IET Reg’s
  • Electrical hazards
  • Burns, fire, explosion, electric shock
  • Basic understanding of electrical units - voltage, current, resistance, ohm’s law, AC & DC supplies, wattage
  • An overview of the distribution system within the factory environment
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Introduction to cables, cable glands, plugs and sockets
  • Electric motors and motor starter systems
  • Electrical components: transformers, contactors, circuit breakers, overloads, fuses, residual current devices
  • Safe use of Electrical test instruments and Safe Isolation
  • Motor starters & drawings
  • Introduction to electrical drawings
  • Practical assessments
  • Pre and post course assessment test
