Receive a nationally recognised BPEC qualification that can be used as a demonstration of competence towards Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
This course is ideal for electricians and domestic installers looking to up-skill and specialise in Solar PV within the rapidly growing renewable energy sector.
Candidates will gain hands on experience, working directly with our purpose-built Solar PV system, developing the necessary skills to effectively design, install, test, commission, handover, service and fault-find a solar photovoltaic systems.
Upon completion, delegates will receive a BPEC qualification in the installation and maintenance of small scale grid tied Photovoltaic systems, which is valid for up to 5 years. The qualification is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and will therefore support an application to join onto the scheme.

Why do a Solar PV course?
With gas and electricity prices continuing to rise, many UK households are now turning towards renewable energy sources to help lower home energy costs. This, coupled with the decrease of small-scale solar PV installation costs, changes to Building Regulations and the introduction of the 2025 Future Homes Standard will see demand only continue to increase.
This BPEC solar PV course provides the perfect avenue for any domestic installer or electrician looking to understand the fundamentals of solar photovoltaic systems with a view to then join a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) or Green Deal registration or undertake further training in other renewable technologies such as Air Source Heat Pumps.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who would this course most benefit?
Companies looking to upskill their staff within the renewables sector or individuals already working within an electrical company already part of a competent persons scheme would benefit most from this training.
Why is this course 5 days?
While solar courses are designed to be undertaken in less time, the pace of the training is often fairly rapid and can leave candidates feeling overwhelmed.
Our course is designed for smaller groups and offers extra time, to ensure that trainees can fully engage with tutors and have a clear understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of Solar PV installation.
I want to train in to become a Solar PV installer but have no experience, where do I start?
Candidates will need to undertake a Domestic Installer course or have Level 3 Electrotechnical NVQ qualification to participate in this course. Universal Skills runs a Domestic Installer course for new entrants, which will then allow you to upskill to Solar afterwards.

What is a small scale solar PV system?
A small scale solar PV system would be any installation which has a total power output of less than 100kW. Such installations include Domestic, Commercial and Industrial properties. Where the power output exceeds 100kW this would be considered a large-scale solar PV system.
Do I need to purchase any books for this course?
The price of this course includes the main resource/training guide you will need. This will then be given to you on your first day.
